Cook Islands will be celebrating OneWebDay 2007 on 24th September 2007. The celebration is being coordinated by Maveni Kaufononga who is the E-Government Project Manager. The E-Government Project is funded by UNDP and the office of the Prime Minister, Cook Islands. The government of Cook Islands is taking the lead in this celebration and here is what Maveni has to say:
"We are having our celebration on the 24th September, this is due to the fact that 22nd have been occupied with other activities. What we are planning to do: We have hired a hall and Telecom Cook Islands (TCI) has agreed to provide internet service for free. In this hall, we will have many booths run by different Government Ministries, small business etc where they will show what are they offering on web and provide assistance as to how to benefit from them. ICT Division of our Government will also show some short simple presentation on other issues, like Security etc. Ministry of Education will use this to launch their new website. We are hoping to get as many participation as we can from the public and the advertisement has been out. In the afternoon, schools have been invited to join in an internet competition at the same place. Our team is organizing activities and with some prices for this competition. So far, our schools are very keen to participate. This program is co-ordinated by the ICT Division of our Government which is based at the Office of the Prime Minister."
